The Olympic Park will create a green backdrop for the Games and a new green space after 2012 for people and wildlife living in and around the area to enjoy.

The Park is being designed by the EDAW Consortium (including EDAW and Buro Happold), working with Arup and WS Atkins. The park including legacy has since been taken over by LDA Design in conjunction with Hargreaves Associates.
London's Olympic and Paralympic bid proposed that there would be four arenas in the Olympic Park, but the revised masterplan published in 2006 reduced this to three, with the volleyball being moved to Earls Court Exhibition Centre. The fencing arena was also cancelled, and the fencing will now take place at ExCeL. The remaining indoor arenas are the Basketball Arena and the Handball Arena. The final design of the park has been approved by the Olympic Delivery Authority and its planning decisions committee.
To enable the major phase of construction to begin, the 52 electricity pylons, each up to 65 metres high, that dominate the landscape in and around the Olympic Park were removed, and the electricity for the park is now instead run through underground tunnels.

One Whirl

Hackney-based artist Martin Richman won the competition to incorporate an art commission into one of the new bridges and underpasses being built on the Olympic Park.

The Clouds Bridge on Angel Lane

The Clouds Bridge, by design students Oscar Bauer and Nazareno Crea, aims to become an iconic social meeting point on Angel Lane bridge in Stratford.

Fast, Faster, Fastest

Jason Bruges Studio’s concepts will be seen on one of the Olympic Stadium bridges as well as two underpasses. The bridge piece celebrates the achievements of Olympic and Paralympic champions with an interactive artwork that challenges people to race against the speed of their sporting heroes.

The ODA commissioned internationally renowned artist Carsten Nicolai to create an artwork for the fence of an infrastructure building in the Olympic Park.

Greenway Markers

Continuing the narrative of reclaimed materials used by The Greenway’s landscape architects, the artists have used the graphic patterns from textured manhole covers in the area and applied this local graphic history on vertical markers at each entrance.

View Tube

The View Tube was built using recycled shipping containers to provide an exciting new venue and facility for local people and visitors. It provides exhibition opportunities for artists together with a classroom and a caf?.

Floating Cinema

This extraordinary floating structure will navigate the waterways of the Host Boroughs with a varied and vibrant programme of on-board screenings, creative canal tours, talks and workshops as well as larger scale outdoor film events for audiences on the canal banks. Somewhere are spending time with the many communities connected to the canals to develop this programme.

Utilities buildings

The ODA has appointed renowned British artists Clare Woods and DJ Simpson to create two large-scale works to be integrated into the facades of two utilities buildings in the south of the Park, which will be highly visible in legacy.
